The Cincinnati Bengals began play in 1968 as an expansion team in the American Football League, and joined the NFL in the AFL - NFL merger in 1970. The Bengals are named after an earlier team that played from 1937-1941. For their first two seasons, the Bengals played at Nippert Stadium which is the current home of the Cincinnati Bearcats. They later moved to Riverfront Stadium and then onto Paul Brown Stadium where they play their home games today. The Bengals were one of the first teams to use the "No- Huddle Offense" as a standard modality regardless of the time remaining in the game. The Bengals have reached the Super Bowl twice during the 1980's but lost both times to the San Francisco 49ers. The Bengals are in their forty-third season, and although they have posted winning records only twelve times in this period, with the recent drafting of Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen and offensive lineman Clint Bowling, the Bengals look to a positive 2011 season.
