The Cleveland Browns began play in 1946 as a charter member of the All American Football Conference and joined the NFL in 1950 after the leagues merged. In 1995 after nearly fifty years in Cleveland, then owner Art Modell, announced his intention to move the team to Baltimore, Maryland. This led to a relocation controversy and to legal action. The result was a unique compromise in which Modell would keep the existing players and staff contracts, but his team would be a new franchise; the team is now known as the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns' name, history, and archives would remain in Cleveland. A new Browns team began play in 1999 after a three year "deactivation". Cleveland is one of four NFL teams that has yet to reach the Super Bowl. Their strong fan support has led to the east end section of Cleveland Brown Stadium to be known as the "Dawg Pound". Led by quarterback Colt McCoy and head coach Pat Shurmur the Cleveland Browns are looking forward to the 2011 season. Buy your Browns tickets today! Go Dawgs!
