The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Earl Lambeau and George Calhoun. Lambeau solicited funds from his employer, the Indian Packing Company, to help pay for team uniforms and expenses. He was given the money on the conditions that the team be named for its sponsor. Today "Green Bay Packers" is the oldest team name still in use in the NFL. The Packers are the only non-profit community owned major league professional sports team in the United States. Green Bay have won more league Championships (13) than any other team in the NFL.
