The game originated from the California Raisin Bowl, which was played in Fresno from 1981-1991. In 1992 in a make over the Raisin Bowl relocated and renamed itself the Las Vegas Bowl. The bowl previously had tie ins to the Big West, Mountain West, and Western Athletic Conferences. It now features a matchup between teams from the Pac-12 and Mountain West Conferences.
