The Philadelphia Eagles were established in 1933 as a replacement for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Eagles were named after the Blue Eagle, a symbol used for then president Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal program initiated during the Great Depression. Although originally called the Philadelphia Eagles their name changed in 1943 to the Phil-Pitt Steagles as a result of a shortage of players due to World War II. Their name was changed back to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1944 and remains so today. The Eagles have won three NFL titles and made two Super Bowl appearances.
