The San Diego Chargers started in 1959 when Barron Hilton met with representatives of five cities to discuss a proposed football league which later would become the American Football League. The League began in 1960 with eight teams including Hilton's Los Angeles Chargers. After moving to San Diego in 1961 the Chargers played nine more years in the AFL until the League merged with the NFL in 1970. Since then the Chargers have made seven trips to the play offs and three appearances in AFC Championship games. The Chargers also made a trip in 1994 to Super Bowl XXIX , losing to the San Francisco 49ers 49-26. With the help of quarterback Philip Rivers the Chargers look forward to a positive and successful 2011 season. Buy your Charger tickets now! Go Bolts!
