Syracuse first began competing in football in 1889. The program's history is highlighted by the 1959 National Championship. The Orange's 1959 was led by Ernie Davis, the first African American Heisman winner. Notable alumnus of the Syracuse Orange include Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, Art Monk, and Joe Morris. Coaches Dick MacPherson and Paul Pasquasloni brought much success to Syracuse winning 4 Conference Titles and making 11 bowl game appearances. Some great players of the Orange during this period include Donovan McNabb, Marvin Harrison, and Qadry Ismail. The Orange play their home games at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York.     Three Named to Preseason All-ACC Teams

    As Syracuse prepares for its inaugural season in the ACC, three Orange have garnered preseason accolades. Senior running back Jerome Smith, senior defensive tackle Jay Bromley and junior linebacker Dyshawn Davis were all named to Athlon Sports Preseason All-ACC Teams. Smith was honored on the first-team offense while both Bromley and Davis were named to the third-team defense.

    For one week, from sun up to sun down, he spent his time improving a Haitian orphanage and playing with impoverished children. He welded soccer nets, built a basketball court and dug a 120-yard trench for a power source. He introduced the kids to baseball and outfitted them in sports gear he brought from home. The tears the children shed when he left were a testament to the lasting impact he made on their lives.

     

    Orange Season-Opener Set for ABC/ESPN2

    First-year head coach Scott Shafer and the Syracuse Orange will open the season in New York's College Classic against Penn State on Saturday, August 31 in a game that will be televised nationally on ABC and ESPN2 at 3:30 pm. Tickets, which start at $80, are on sale now.     ACC Announces Crossover Opponents

    The Atlantic Coast Conference released an equitable 12-year schedule for the rotating crossover conference opponents for its schools in football which begins this fall. The rotating crossover opponent is the one ACC team that changes every year on each ACC teams' football schedules. With the addition of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC this fall, each ACC team will play all six divisional opponents annually, one primary crossover team from the opposite division which does not change, and one rotating team from the opposite division which does change.

     

    SU Achieves Highest Directors' Cup Spring Ranking in School History

    After placing four teams in the Final Four and eight in the postseason, Syracuse Athletics has entered the top 25 of the NACDA Directors' Cup Spring Standings for the first time in school history. The NACDA Directors' Cup recognizes collegiate athletics programs that maintain a broad-based program achieving success in many sports. Syracuse has a school-record 533 points, breaking last year's program-best of 452.5.

    Junior linebacker Dyshawn Davis highlights the four Orange that have been named to Phil Steele's 2013 Preseason All-ACC teams. Davis was named to the first team defense, while fellow senior linebacker Marquis Spruill was honored on the third team. Defensive tackle Jay Bromley wrapped up the defensive honorees on the fourth-team while senior running back Jerome Smith was featured on the second-team offense.

    MacPherson Named to Rimington Watch List

    With summer workouts beginning this week, the Syracuse football team is focusing in on the 2013 season. While preparation has begun for the Orange's inaugural season in the ACC, senior Macky MacPherson has garnered recognition by being named to the Rimington Trophy 2013 Spring Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center.

     

    Legendary Orange Quarterbacks to be Celebrated with Jersey Retirements

    The jerseys of former Syracuse greats Don McPherson and Donovan McNabb will be raised to the Carrier Dome rafters to join the likes of Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little, John Mackey and Larry Csonka. Syracuse University will honor the Orange quarterbacks in ceremonies during the 2013 football season. McPherson will return to campus on October 5 to be recognized when the Orange hosts Clemson and McNabb will take center stage on November 2 when Syracuse faces Wake Forest.
