Workers roll out the new turf at renovated Husky Stadium

The renovation of Husky Stadium reached a milestone this week: It’s now got turf. Check out the video below of workers installing FieldTurf on the new floor of the stadium Thursday. Judging by the webcams set up around Husky Stadium, the turf is being installed in 5-yard segments. While the artificial grass isn’t all in place yet, we do know a few things. The end zones are purple. There’ll be a few, we assume, big Washington W‘s. And the edges of the field are much, much closer to the stands now that the old oval track has been removed. UW men win third-straight rowing national championship; women finish 6th

The Washington men’s rowing team won its third-straight national championship Sunday, and swept all five of its final races for the second year in a row. The Huskies men’s varsity eight — the top boat, consisting of eight rowers and a coxswain — went undefeated in the 2013 racing season, beating arch-rival California each time the schools faced off. In Sunday’s grand final at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta at Lake Natoma, Calif., the UW eight took gold again after covering the 2,000-meter race course in 5:39.68. UW women surge from behind to take first game in softball World Series

The Washington women, ranked No. 11, surged into the Women’s College World Series with an upset over No. 6 Missouri last Friday. This Thursday morning, the Huskies surged from behind and beat No. 14 Nebraska in walk-off fashion to advance to the next round of the softball tournament. Kimberlee Souza, UW’s sophomore third baseman, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning (there are seven regulation innings in collegiate women’s softball) to snag her Huskies the 4-3 victory Thursday in Oklahoma City, Okla., where the WCWS is being held this year. The ‘Swagga Suit’ is back for WSU

The Swagga Suit is back, and now in crimson. The full-zip onesies known as Swagga Suits, released in UW purple last year by the company SWAG — short for Sweat Washington Athletic Gear — are now available for the Huskies’ cross-state rivals, the Washington State Cougars. Now the entire state can properly adorn itself in swag. The UW version of the suits grew in popularity after pictures (see below) of former Huskies basketball star and current international player Jon Brockman rocked his own 6-foot-7 Swagga Suit in a photo shoot last year. Huskies hoops stars returning to UW for alumni basketball bash

The guest list for Washington’s upcoming basketball alumni event is enough to make any Dawg drool. Nate Robinson, Terrence Ross, Brandon Roy, Jon Brockman, Quincy Pondexter, Isaiah Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Tony Wroten and Justin Holiday. Those are the former Huskies hoops stars who have RSVP’d so far. The shindig, aptly named the University of Washington Men’s Basketball Alumni Event, will start at 1 p.m. June 23 at Hec Edmundson Pavilion on the UW campus. Saturday marks the 27th annual Windermere Cup – one of the world’s best crew races that’s often called the best free event anywhere in Seattle. Dartmouth and Cornell are coming this year, and thousands are expected to line the course on Lake Washington. The tradition started after Windermere Real Estate founder John Jacobi read a 1986 Seattle Times column by Blaine Newnham and took action.
